Anna Maria Köhler was born on 19 Jul 1850 in Huck, Saratov, Russia. Her father died when she was 7 years old. Her mother must have also been dead, as she had to "live among strangers". She went to live with the Heinrich Schnell family in Norka, who eventually became her father-in-law. She married Georg Heinrich Schnell on 9 Feb 1870 in Norka. They had 9 children: Anna Charlotte, b. 20 Mar 1872 Johannes, b. 30 Jun 1874- d. Nov 1875 Katharine Maria, b. 25 Feb 1877 Lydia, b. 7 Mar 1879 Philip, b. 5 May 1881 Johan Georg, b. 23 Apr 1884- d. 14 Dec 1885 Peter, b. 11 Jan 1887 Heinrich, b. 20 Jan 1889- d. 20 Oct 1891 John, b. 15 Jul 1891
After her husband died in 1909, she came to Canada with 3 of her sons, Philip, Peter, and John. They arrived in Quebec in 1911 and settled in Stony Plain, Alberta. Her daughter Lydia also came with her husband John Traudt. Five years later she moved to Castor, Alberta along with her 3 sons. She died in Castor, Alberta on 30 Nov 1939 at the age of 89. At the time of her death she had 42 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
