John Schnell
John Schnell was born on 15 Jul 1891 in the German village of Norka,
Saratov, Russia to
Georg Heinrich Schnell and Anna Maria Köhler.
He was the youngest of 9 children.
He married Amelia Stertz on 6 Sep 1911 in Norka.  His mother had
decided that she would emigrate to Canada with John and 2 of his
older brothers, and told him to find a wife before they went.   In
November of 1911 they arrived in Quebec on the S.S. Ausonia.  They
settled in Stony Plain, Alberta.
They had 7 children:
Emmanuel, b. 1912
Konrad
Herbert
Henry
Hannah
Clara
Harold
John owned a
blacksmith shop in Castor, Alberta.  He and Amelia also
had a large garden, which consisted of their entire yard.  My
personal memories of my great grandpa Schnell are of his workshop
in the basement where he made spinning wheels.  He always spoke
German at home and gave me money when I came to visit as a young
child.  And great grandma gave me candy.  What could be better?
He died on 29 Sep 1984 in Coronation, Alberta at the age of 93.
