Olof August Backstrom was born on 17 Feb 1866 in Nässjö, Långsele,
Västernorrland, Sweden to Anders Bäckström and Anna Brita
Pehrsdotter. His family emigrated to Kansas in 1881, but Olof stayed
behind in Sweden. He became a sailor around 1885 and was living in
the parish of Styrnäs, however in 1888 the priest noted that he was
"missing" and his whereabouts were unknown. It is possible that he
emigrated at that time to the U.S., however in the 1920 census he
stated that he arrived in 1893.
Olof married a Swedish immigrant named Matilda around 1916. They
lived in Colombia Co, Oregon.
Olof died on 7 Jul 1945 in Colombia Co, Oregon.
