Berthel Munson (Monsen) was born on September 7, 1840 in Finnås,
Bømlo, Hordaland, Norway to Mons Monsen and Dordi Hansdatter.
He was confirmed on October 21, 1855 in Finnås parish. He
emigrated from Finnås in January of 1857 and in 1865 was living in
Haugesund. He married Lovise Marie Jacobsdatter Ollestad on
December 28, 1869 in Skåre, Haugesund, Rogaland, Norway. She was
the daughter of Jacob Larsen Ollestad and Marte Henriksdatter, and
was born August 11, 1848 in Avaldsnes parish, Rogaland, Norway. On
29 Apr 1870 Berthel and Lovisa left from Stavanger, Norway and came
to live in the United States. They traveled on the S.S. Protector with
his brother Magnus and arrived in Quebec on 20 Jun 1870. (View

document here.) Their first child, Martha Dorothea Atlanta Munson
was born at sea on Jun 17, 1870. They settled in Livingston Co,
Illinois.
