Johan Olsson Harlin
Johan Olsson Harlin was born January 15, 1839 in Grönäs, in the parish of Ed, Västernorrland county, Sweden
to
Olof Jönsson and Anna Olsdotter.  He was the fourth of nine children in his family.

The family left Ed parish in 1850 to come to America.  They sold most of their belongings to fund their journey.
They planned to leave Sweden from Gävle, which at that time was an established center for emigration from
Sweden.  To save money they decided to walk to Gävle, which was about 400 km from their home.  The family
stayed there over the summer, but were not able to find a ship to bring them to America.  In October they
decided to walk back to Grönås in Ed.  During the return his sister Anna Christina (16 years old) and brother
Anders (13 years old) stayed in Rogsta to work as servants for a farmer.  The rest of the family arrived to their
home in early 1851.  It was probably January or February, as they were the first family listed in the immigration
records of that year in Ed.
Johan Olsson took the name Harlin around 1865.
Johan married
Anna Brita Olsdotter on November 19, 1862.
They had ten children:
