Olof Jönsson Brunberg
Olof Jönsson was born on May 17, 1813 in Solberg, Brunflo parish, Jämtland county, Sweden to Jön Pehrsson and
Christina Andersdotter.  He was the eighth of 10 children in his family, however when he was born only 2 brothers
and 1 sister were alive.  The others had died as children.
He married
Anna Olsdotter on November 10, 1833 in the parish of Ed.
They had nine children:
Anna Christina Olsdotter, born October 19, 1834
Per Olof Olsson (Berglund), born December 18, 1835
Anders Olsson (Bäckström), born April 19, 1837
Johan Olsson (Harlin), born January 15, 1839
Brita Elisabet Olsdotter, born April 1, 1842
Ivar Olsson, born September 24, 1843, died 15 Jan 1844
Johanna Olsdotter, born November 1, 1844
Emma Caroline Olsdotter, born October 8, 1846
Carl Gustaf Olsson, born February 6, 1848

The family left Ed parish in 1850 to come to America.  They sold most of their belongings to fund their journey.  They
planned to leave Sweden from Gävle, which at that time was an established center for emigration from Sweden.  To
save money they decided to walk to Gävle, which was about 400 km from their home.  The family stayed there over
the summer, but were not able to find a ship to bring them to America.  In October they decided to walk back to
Grönås in Ed.  During the return they left Anna Christina (16 years old) and Anders (13 years old) in Rogsta to work
as servants for a farmer.  The rest of the family arrived to their home in early 1851.  It was probably January or
February, as they were the first family listed in the immigration records of that year in Ed.

According to my new-found cousin Hans Berglund, "My grandfather told me that he (Olof) was a skilled craftsman
and earned money by walking around in the region and “in situ” manufactured casks, barrels etc. of wood for the
farmers´ needs. Once when he returned home, he found that the dwelling house had burned down and that the
family was living in the cow-house. Such happened and the only thing to do was to build a new dwelling house."

In 1869 after all of their children were grown, Olof left his wife in Sweden and came to America with his younger
brother
Ivar (Edvard) Jönsson  Naslund on the ship The City of London.  He took the name Brunberg and settled in
Marshall county, Kansas.  He remarried a Swedish woman named Christina, who was about 30 years younger than
he was.  They had 2 children; one died as an infant, and the other was a daughter named Nellie, born in 1875.  His
daughter Emma Caroline
(Nord) came to Marshall County, Kansas with her family in 1878.  His son Anders Olsson
Bäckström immigrated to the same county in 1881 with his family.  Olof's daughter Johanna Olsdotter Sandquist also
settled in Marshall county, Kansas in 1886 with her family.

Olof died in 1905 in Kansas.  His wife Christine then moved to Kansas City to live with her daughter Nellie (Lundahl).
